Hempstead is a town known as a civil township in Nassau County on Long Island. There are around 22 villages within Hempstead and as of 2000 census there were 755,924 residents. Hempstead was settled in a treaty between Robert Fordham and John Carman in 1644 when the pair purchased land from local Native American Indian tribes. During its early days it was known as Heemstede taken from the Dutch city. During the American Revolution, American sympathizers lived in the north and loyalists in the south which caused a split in 1784 of the town.

Gray Schultz Middle School, Franklin School, Fulton School, Jackson Main School, Jackson Annex School, Barack Obama School, Marshall School, and Prospect School. Higher learning facilities are also home in Hempstead including the Nassau Community College, New York University, and the Hofstra University, to name a few. Hempstead is home to a variety of businesses, restaurants, and service businesses which is the main industry leading the economy.
